„Beit Emmaus“: Der Name ist sowohl Hebräisch als auch Arabisch und bedeutet „Haus Emmaus“; die Sprachen, die in dem Haus gesprochen werden, sind Englisch und Arabisch. Es ist ein Pflegeheim für teils behinderte und ältere palästinensische Frauen christlicher sowie muslimischer Religion, das sich im Westjordanland befindet. Jerusalem ist nur zwölf Kilometer entfernt, aber durch eine hohe Mauer, Stacheldraht und Checkpoints getrennt. Die Leiterin des Hauses, die katholische Ordensfrau Schwester Dominika Zelent, hat Englische Literatur und Soziale Arbeit studiert. Vor Kurzem war die 53-Jährige in Wien und hat Maria Harmer von ihrer tagtäglichen Arbeit erzählt – und auch, woraus sie als Salvatorianerin Kraft schöpft.
